IX.9.d  Pompeii. May 2005. Entrance doorway, looking east through fauces a towards atrium b. According to NdS, when found the entrance corridor did not offer anything notable. The floor was of crushed brick (mattone pesto) spread with small pieces of coloured marble, the walls were painted red.

The floor was of crushed brick (mattone pesto) spread with small pieces of coloured marble, the walls were painted red.

IX.9.d Pompeii. March 2009. Entrance fauces a, looking east. According to Jacobelli, two paintings of gladiators were discovered in the atrium of this house when it was excavated in 1889.
One was on the wall to the right of the entrance, the other was found in the space adjoining the entrance. Both were in quite poor and damaged condition when found.

According to NdS, on the external wall near to the entrance, on the left above a layer of plaster, two combatant Gladiators were seen. They had now vanished, (see NdS, 1888, p.518)

According to Jacobelli, two paintings of gladiators were discovered in the atrium of this house when it was excavated in 1889.

One was on the wall to the right of the entrance and the other was found in the space adjoining the entrance.

Both were in quite poor and damaged condition when found.

IX.9.d Pompeii. March 2009. Room c, west wall of cubiculum.  According to NdS, the floor of the cubiculum was of signinum, and the walls were painted on a white background. In the panels on the walls, framed by red bands, were painted cupids. One held a dove or pigeon, another a rabbit, and the third pushing forward a piglet. In the south wall was the bed recess, and in the west wall there was a window at the top.

According to NdS, the floor of the cubiculum was of signinum, and the walls were painted on a white background.

In the panels on the walls, framed by red bands, were painted cupids.

According to NdS, on the west side of the atrium and precisely on the wall of the small room d, two gladiators in combat (0.36 high) were painted on a layer of plaster: 
Another pair were painted slightly higher above, but now few traces remained.
Below them, in charcoal, many vertical lines were drawn and the number ‘X’ repeated many times.
Another gladiator (0.76 high), completely armed and in the attitude of fighting, was painted on the black background of the north wall.

According to NdS, the walls of the triclinium were painted with yellow panels bordered by purple lines; White painted pilasters were placed between the panels, which reached to the yellow frieze divided by painted bosses; Below the frieze ran bands of purple, green and yellow. The floor of the triclinium was of crushed brick (mattone pesto), and in the north wall was a cupboard recess. See Notizie degli Scavi, 1889, p.131.
