IX.3.15 Pompeii. March 2009. Room 1, entrance corridor, looking north. According to Fiorelli, “This house was preceded by a long open corridor, at the end of which was the latrine sheltered by a roof. The entrance door to the atrium was here, it had an impluvium and puteal, on the west side of which was a cubiculum and a room, used perhaps as a tablinum.
Nearby was the corridor, having to the left another spacious cubiculum, from where, mounting two steps, one went into an oecus. Both the oecus and the corridor exited onto the portico, which surrounded the garden area. This portico supported by ten columns, with a masonry pluteus joining them, was later closed on the north side, to give place to a windowed triclinium, preceded by a storeroom, and by the hearth which was against the latrine. On the south side there were an exedra, a cubiculum, and a spacious room, these resulted from the breaking down of walls that existed here before.”
