VI.13.9 Pompeii. December 2004. Looking west across peristyle, from rear entrance. According to Garcia y Garcia, in 1943 a bomb destroyed the rear entrance at VI.13.9. The three nearby rooms on the south-east side of the peristyle were destroyed as well as a good part of the east wall. See Garcia y Garcia, L., 2006. Danni di guerra a Pompei. Rome: L’Erma di Bretschneider. (p.86-87) According to Jashemski, numerous graffiti found indicated that the peristyle had been converted into a spinning and weaving establishment. See VI.13.8 for the graffiti. This area was badly damaged by the 1943 bombing. See Jashemski, W. F., 1993. The Gardens of Pompeii, Volume II: Appendices. New York: Caratzas. (p.147)

According to Varone, found inscribed near the entrance was – Nunc est ira recens nunc est disc[edere tempus] si dolor afuerit crede redibit [amor] [CIL IV 4491] This translated as – Anger is now fresh, it is better now to retreat.
