According to Boyce, on the south wall beneath the stairs was a lararium painting:
A single serpent about to devour the offerings – an egg and a pine cone – on a burning altar.

According to Eschebach, near the stairs was the doorway into the two rooms on the south side.

According to Bragantini, this painting had been found on the east wall, on the south side of the doorway leading into the rear room.
It is the same subject as the one found in the rear room on the north side.
