Via del Vesuvio between VI.14 and V.1. Looking north from the Quadrivio. March 2009. Via del Vesuvio is shown on some plans as the northern end of Via Stabiana running from this crossroads to the Vesuvian Gate.
According to Fiorelli, the first excavations of Pompeii started near this crossroads on 1st April 1748. See Pappalardo, U., 2001. La Descrizione di Pompei per Giuseppe Fiorelli (1875). Napoli: Massa Editore. (p. 155).

Via del Vesuvio between VI.14 and V.1. March 2009. Looking north from the crossroads.

Via del Vesuvio is shown on some plans as the northern end of Via Stabiana running from this crossroads to the Vesuvian Gate.

According to Fiorelli, the first excavations of Pompeii started near this crossroads on 1st April 1748.
